The explosion of online videos luckily has extended into the world of horse racing.  Now that YouTube has emerged onto the scene, it is not uncommon to find your favorite stakes races posted within just a day or two of the race should you want to relive Zenyatta’s Breeders Cup Classic win, or Mine That Bird’s Kentucky Derby win.

Want to watch Secretariat coast to the wire in the Belmont Stakes, 31 lengths ahead of the competition? Or Spectacular Bid’s walkover in the 1980 Woodward Stakes? Nearly every Kentucky Derby you could want to watch is available on YouTube now, just type in 1966 Kentucky Derby and watch Kauai King hold off the competition to take the roses, or 1944 Kentucky Derby and watch Pensive come up the rail and win convincingly, or 1985 and watch Spend a Buck take them wire to wire. V

Almost every one of Seattle Slew’s races can be found on YouTube, so that the most avid horse racing fan can now go back and trace his rise from humble beginnings to greatness.

The classic duels are there too, including Sunday Silence and Easy Goer’s epic battle in the 1989 Preakness Stakes, Exceller and Seattle Slew’s dramatic Jockey Club Gold Cup in 1978, and all the great battles between Dr. Fager, Damascus, and Buckpasser in 1967.

The more recent races generally uploaded from different broadcasts, especially the more prominent races, so that the viewer has the luxury of viewing a race from a different perspective.

One of the best things about the proliferation of online horse videos is that it is fairly easy to find your favorite European races now. This is especially useful when trying to figure out how good that European entrant in the Breeders Cup really is. Watching their European races first hand can help you get a better feel for the horse’s talent and heart.

Often racing enthusiasts who fancy themselves amateur filmmakers will splice together various still and moving images of race horses and add in a soundtrack to create a montage of scenes, often in tribute to a particular horse.  There are tributes to famous race horses such as Barbaro, Smarty Jones, Rachel Alexandra, Secretariat, Seattle Slew, and many others.

Even the more obscure stakes races can be found on YouTube which you may not have been broadcast in your area. Just search and you shall find.
